Editorial standards
Every Copy That Clears article is built on primary sources, checked before it goes live, dated, and corrected openly when something changes. This page explains exactly how we do it.
1. Sources come first
We take figures and rules from the original document wherever we can. That means company filings, central bank releases, regulator websites and official statistics. When we rely on news reporting, we name the outlet and link to the story. Every article ends with a numbered list of its sources.
2. Fact-checking before publishing
An editor checks every number, date and name against its source before an article goes live. If we cannot confirm a figure, we leave it out.
3. Dates and updates
Finance rules and numbers change. So each article shows when it was first published and when we last updated it. We review our explainers regularly and refresh them when a rule, rate or record moves.
4. Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and say so. Report an error through our contact form and choose "Correction".
5. Independence
Nobody pays us to cover a company, rank a product or change our wording. We do not accept gifts in return for coverage. If we ever publish sponsored content, we will label it clearly at the top of the page.
6. Education, not advice
We explain how financial products and systems work. We do not recommend investments, and nothing on this site is financial, investment, legal or tax advice. Crypto assets are volatile and can lose value.
7. How we use AI
We use AI tools to help with research and early drafts. A human editor then checks every fact against its source and rewrites the article before it is published. AI never decides what we publish.
8. Plain English
We write short sentences, define jargon the first time we use it and start each article with a direct answer. Our glossary explains the terms we use most.
