India advertising rules for Meta and Google ads (2026)

India regulates ads through ASCI codes, consumer protection guidelines and sector laws. Ads are banned for gambling and sports betting, alcohol, tobacco, vapes and nicotine. Real estate needs a permit or licence first. Influencers and creators face their own licensing and disclosure rules.

General ad rules in India

  • CCPA Guidelines on Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements, 2022. 'Free' only when there is no hidden cost. Disclaimers must be legible and must not contradict the main claim.
